What most people don’t realize about McDonald’s is that it’s not primarily in the business of flipping burgers. It’s a real-estate company. It has bought land in some of the most valuable spots in the world, in cities, near major traffic hubs, etc.

They’re in the business of using their franchisees and their technology and systems to finance and generate a positive return on their purchase of real-estate.

If they want to or need to, at any point, they could start to transition out of burgers and into some other business that benefits from being in these locations.

As you can see from the map, they have a huge number of locations.
