Speaking of where great creations come from, Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love, talks about the exact same thing.

I particularly love the story about the poem coming down perfectly, but backwards, and the story about Tom Waits receiving inspiration while driving his car.

I think it’s so worth respecting that our source of creativity is actually outside ourselves, even though we access it through the inner-most part of our being - our heart and our intuition.
