Build the business only you can build
Starting a business is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact on the world. But the sad fact is that 9 out of 10 startups fail.
I don’t have the definitive answer. Some are because the market din’t need what they offered. Some because the partners couldn’t agree. Some because they got side-tracked. There’s a million reasons to fail.
But ultimately, startups fail because founders give up and drift on to other pastimes. Like Paul Graham, the incubator, says: “Startups rarely die in mid keystroke. So keep typing!”
Why would the founders give up?
Most of the time, they give up because it’s not important enough to them. If you build a business hoping to get rich, it’s easy to give up when things gets tough.
But when you build a business because you love what you do and the work is meaningful to you, then restistance is only going to make your resolve stronger. That’s why you need to build the business that only you can build. A business that’s uniquely you.
Another reason is when you get stuck and just can’t find your way out. You’re blind to the solutions, away from your normal creative, resourceful state. When you find yourself in that boat, it’s tempting to just give up. “I’ve tried everything!” Really? _Every_thing?
It happens to all of us, and we just need some help to get past it. What part of reality or yourself are you resisting? What are the true options, and what are their true consequences? They are what they are, your job is to get honest and make a choice. A coach can help you see past your blindness, and in the process you’ll grow as a person.
